(Belated) Year in Review

Yesterday I felt like crap after my very long shift at work, took a nap, then wound up talking to my best friend for close to 3 hours so I didn't get anything I'd planned to do done. Oops. Will do some tonight.

Total Number of Stories: 23 finished/posted – 4 for VK, 19 for Batman/DCU. Several others started. Not counting those as they aren’t complete works. Yet!

 

Overall Thoughts: I’m so proud of myself for being so inspired. I feel like I’ve grown so much as a writer this year. Hope to grow even more in 2018!

Looking back, did you write more, less, or about as much as you'd predicted? Way more. From about July 2016 – March 2017 I was in a writing rut. Struggled to make headway in any of my projects and I figured 2017 would be more of the same. False!

 

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January? DCU. I had vague awareness and knowledge of characters and never saw myself writing them. Until my friend got into the Arkham Knight game and wanted someone to write with her. 

What's your own favorite story of the year? That… is a tough question. I think “Whatever It Takes” or “Two Birds” 

 

Did you take any writing risks this year? Tons. I joined a new fandom, did two Big Bangs (one a 5K and the other a 10K), 3 different ship weeks, a JayTim Secret Santa. That and I wrote a lot of fics in present tense.

 

My best/most popular story of this year:  Whatever It Takes. My longest at 22,272 words and on Ao3 I’ve got 1,525 hits on it *wipes proud tear *

Most fun story to write: Again, tough! I think Soap Suds though. Having Tim wear booty shorts to wash Jason’s car was just too fun.

 

Story with the single sexiest moment: The extended foreplay in Chapter 2 of Whatever It Takes.

 

Story with the single funniest moment: When Dick blabs about his sex life and scars Tim and Damian in Two Birds

 

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: I’ll do a VK one. “The Prisoner” really allowed me to get in San’s head and see what sort of person he was before Jin got his claws into him.

 

Hardest story to write: Whatever It Takes. Writer’s block, rewrites, contemplating giving it up… so proud of myself for sticking through it all and finishing it.

Biggest Disappointment: Yet again being unable to finish To Love a Vampire. Also not finishing all my fics for JayDick Week and Sladin Week by the 31st. I was so excited to write for Sladin Week and then I either was stuck, busy with other projects, or real life got in the way.

 

Biggest Surprise: How much inspiration I got from joining a new fandom. I don’t know how many words I wrote for DCU this year, but I’ll have to check.

22 fics completed in a year is almost 2 per month. Impressive! I'm glad that joining the new fandom got your creative juices flowing again. (Even if I am a little sad your VK muses continue to give you issues.) Hope 2018 provides even more inspiration!

Realized it was 23. I'd forgotten one. There were definitely some crazy months of getting multiple fics done in that month to meet the challenge deadlines. (I wrote primarily VK for so many years and now that I have new muses to play with, I have no drive to write VK anymore. I will finish Second Chances but I doubt I'll write anything else)
