I feel like I'm spamming LJ. Hopefully my next post will be a fic!

But anyway. I was waiting for my favorite jewelry store to open so I went into Barnes and Noble (bookstore on campus) to kill time and see if I could find a good book. I honestly didn't find many. It seems like there are WAY too many vampire romance books. I browsed through the young adult section (for a laugh) and seriously they had an entire huge shelf devoted to "Dark romances". So Twilight ripoffs, essentially. I wouldn't mind them so much if they were actually different, but no. It's a Vampire/fallen angel/werewolf/whatever who falls in love with the "ordinary" human girl half the time. What about the GIRL being the supernatural creature falling for a human boy? Some variety please. And these books have seeped into the adult section...

I haven't really read a real book for pleasure in awhile. Most of my reading is done online and 90% of it is fanfiction. At least that I know what I'm looking for and what I want to read.

So does anyone have any good book recommendations? I need something to read.

Junk by Melvin burgess.
Took me forever and a day to find a copy, but I really recommend it. Narrative is a bit simple, but it is technically a childrens book, and the central characters are 14-16. It's good though, moving.

A long way down by Nick Hornby is hilarious. Or I found it hilarious. It's really rather witty and a brilliant portrayal of British cynicism and humor. One of the characters annoys me no end, but she adds to the overall dynamic of the mish-mashed group.

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher is another that is technically a children's book, though I was recommended this by a friend and absolutely adored it.

I'll probably think of some more later on XD And I completely agree with there being far too many books focused on 'Dark Romance'. It's the same thing over and over and it just isn't interesting any more. There are many other areas of the supernatural that could be explored. D;

not forgetting the fact that vampires are technically dead and usually at least a hundred years old. These authors do get that they're promoting necrophilia and slight paedophilia, right?

I do so adore finding flaws with twilight. My favourite being that Jacob 'Imprinting' upon Renesmee would technically mean the only reason he 'loved' Bella was for that egg, and that he was technically in love with Edward too. Also, Edward being dead and all and not having any blood flow makes for interesting theories as to how he could possibly get an erection in the first place, never mind getting Bella pregnant.
Edward is a fairy, and I miss scary vampires.

I might have to write scary vampires. Though that's been done and I wouldn't know which set of characters to use. *pouts*

Enjoy book hunting! :)

Aww ... I know how you feel o.o
The last book I read what one of my witcher books, more a dark kind of fantasy, nothing mushy ... don't know if you heard of those o.o
It's kind of hard to find though ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Witcher
can highly recommend it though. it's gorgeous and so far away from twilight that the girlies who read twilight would get a trauma for their lives ... hehe ... xD

other than that ... I'm only reading fan fiction too xD

Erm ... you don't know me, since I don't comment that often on your fics. But I read most of your stories and some of your personal entries. Well, you asked for books and that's why I comment ^^

Evil? by Timothy Carter
It's about fallen angels *laughs* and a gay teenager who lives in a really religious town and summones a little demon every now and then. It's quite funny, cause the angels are so overacting and taking their job way too serious. I had some good laughs while reading (which took me only two days, since I simply wasn't able to put it away ^^)

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
A dead girl tells the story of her suicide via tapes. The guy who got this tapes is one of the 13 persons who are the reasons why the girl killed herself. Very interesting and catching. Couldn't stop reading till I was done in less than 24 hours :3

I just realized a while ago how I hadn't read a book in ages either... Been reading nothing but fics online XD

I started reading The Picture of Dorian Gray a few days ago though and find it interesting. Maybe you could read that if you haven't done so already?

I suck at summaries, but I'll give it a try.
Ok, yeah I started writing something out and my description would've made me not want to read the book...

Here's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dorian_Gray) the wiki page instead, sorry about that...

I know how you feel cause I've been searching too for something a bit different.
Though most are with vampires etc etc..

I would probably recomment you, and I've started reading it recently ''Beautiful Darkness'' or ''Beautiful Creatures'' by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl.

You might like it I don't know but i really enjoyed reading it.

Most of the time I go to the store and pick up the most random books so yea :3
