Summary: Hyde, Ken, and Tetsu take a train to Kyoto and deal with the changes Sakura's arrest has brought them.
Author's Comment: I wrote this when I was on the train and had a lot of fun writing all L'Arc and experimenting with a new pairing. Set in 96 after Sakura gets arrested.

 

Tetsu glanced up from the papers in his lap as Hyde shifted next to him. The singer had been attempting to nap for the last half hour, but hadn’t been able to fall asleep since he couldn’t get comfortable. Their seats in a private compartment of the train just weren’t good enough for Hyde to curl up on.

“Can’t find a good spot?” Ken, who was seated across from them, asked as he lowered the manga he’d been reading.

“No,” Hyde grumbled.

Tetsu made a surprised noise as his lover abruptly snuggled up against his side and leaned his head against his shoulder. “Better?” he combed his fingers through Hyde’s soft hair and smiled at his lover.

“Not really.” Hyde pouted up at him. “Your shoulder’s too bony.”

Tetsu chuckled. “I can’t help that.” He wrapped his arm around Hyde’s waist and pressed him a little closer. “Try to get some more sleep. We have another five hours before we reach Kyoto.” His smile faded as he thought of the reason for their trip. Sakura had been arrested for heroin possession and L’Arc~en~Ciel had been practically blacklisted. The band they’d worked so hard for was in danger of going under. Their manager had suggested they leave Tokyo for a few days. Hyde had wanted to go to Hawaii, but Tetsu had told him that it would be best if they stayed in Japan. He hadn’t gone to Kyoto in a while and suggested the former capital. Hyde had agreed, and Tetsu had asked Ken if he wanted to come with them. Ken had said yes, and so the three of them had bought train tickets to Kyoto, booked rooms in a hotel, and were on their way to the city.

Hyde sat up with a disgruntled sigh. “I can’t sleep! Your shoulder is stabbing my cheek and you keep moving your arm.”

“Sorry, Hyde, but I need to finish this paperwork.”

The singer’s gaze fell to the papers in Tetsu’s lap then looked back at him with a sweet smile. “Tet-chan.”

Tetsu was immediately suspicious. “What?”

“Let me use your lap so I can sleep.”

“No, Hyde. I can’t write if I have you asleep in my lap and I’d much rather finish this paperwork on the train so I don’t have to deal with it when we’re in Kyoto.” Also, Hyde’s head would be dangerously close to his crotch.

Ken looked amused as he watched the exchange. Tetsu scowled at him and made the fatal mistake of looking at Hyde, who was using his best tricks. The pout, the pleading look in those big brown eyes… a deadly combination that Tetsu could never resist. He quickly averted his eyes.

Hyde turned his face back towards him. “Please, Tet-chan?”

“Not now.” Tetsu turned the singer’s chin up for a kiss. “Maybe in another hour, okay?”

Hyde huffed and refused to return the kiss, pouting more as he folded his arms over his chest. “Who do you love more: me, your boyfriend, or those damn papers?”

Tetsu sighed. “You of course.”

Hyde smirked. “Good.” He snatched the papers out of Tetsu’s lap before he could protest and pushed them at Ken. The guitarist chuckled as he took the papers. Satisfied that Tetsu’s lap was now free, Hyde lay down with his head on the bassist’s thighs. “Much better.”

Tetsu mock glared at his lover. “You’re a brat.”

Hyde stuck his tongue out. “You were the brat for denying your lover a chance to sleep.”

“I could push you off my lap you know.”

The singer pouted. “That’d be mean.”

Tetsu sighed. “Fine. I’ll let you sleep here as long as you promise to let me do my paperwork.”

Hyde smiled his best angel smile. “I promise, Tet-chan.” He turned over on his side and closed his eyes. Tetsu set his pen aside and combed his fingers through Hyde’s hair, humming a lullaby for him. It didn’t take long for him to fall asleep.

“You’re so whipped,” Ken cackled.

“I am not!” He wasn’t whipped; he was just being a good lover.

Ken rolled his eyes as he indicated the sleeping Hyde. “No, Tetsu, you are whipped. Hyde has you so far under his thumb that all he has to do is pout and flutter his eyelashes and you’ll do anything for him.”

“That’s not…” Tetsu trailed off as he realized there was no point in finishing his sentence. Ken was right. He’d always had a hard time saying no to Hyde, and if he tried to deny Ken’s words he’d just laugh and tell Tetsu that he was in denial. Brats, both of them.

“Saw the light?” Ken chuckled. “You’ve always been under his spell.”

“We all have,” Tetsu reminded. Ken had equal trouble resisting Hyde too.

“Very true.” Ken’s smile faded. “Sakura especially.”

Tetsu frowned and glanced down at Hyde. “He certainly is good at enchanting people.” He draped his arm over the singer’s back and studied his sleeping face. Hyde wrinkled his nose as a few strands of hair tickled his face, and Tetsu brushed the offending hair behind Hyde’s ear. Ken was right about Sakura. The drummer really adored Hyde. He liked him so much that Tetsu often felt jealous whenever Sakura hugged him too long, called him too much, and spent too much time with his Hyde. He’d lost track of how many times he’d had to fight back the possessive urge to kiss Hyde senseless in front of Sakura so he could show the drummer who Hyde belonged to.

It all seemed so petty now. Sakura had just been friendly. He’d never had any intentions to steal Hyde away from Tetsu, and none of his old worries seemed to matter now that Sakura was in jail and L’Arc~en~Ciel was in jeopardy. Who knew what would happen now.

“How is Hyde handling this?” Ken’s quiet voice, devoid of his former humor, roused Tetsu from his musings. “I know how hard this has been on him.”

“He’s stronger than he looks. It hurts… it really hurts him, but he’s trying so hard to be strong for us.” Tetsu stroked Hyde’s hair. Both of them had had their moments of weakness, drowned their sorrows in alcohol and each other… but Hyde was doing his best to remain strong for Tetsu’s sake.

“What are we going to do when Sakura gets out of jail?”

“I don’t know,” Tetsu sighed. “I don’t know if Sakura is going to stay in the band or if he’ll quit. No matter what happens, I don’t give up on L’Arc.” Do I even want Sakura to stay after everything he’s put us through? Sakura was in danger of destroying Tetsu’s dreams. All of their dreams.

“I don’t want to give up either.” Ken forced a smile. “I can’t stand the thought of working a regular job.”

Tetsu laughed weakly. “Me neither.” He fell silent as Hyde stirred. He didn’t want to risk waking his lover. Hyde had been having a hard time sleeping because of all of the stress. He’d toss and turn for hours while Tetsu was up late talking to the managers or doing paperwork. Hyde relaxed once Tetsu was in bed and had Hyde in his arms, but the singer would get restless again and keep Tetsu awake with his constant moving. Both of them were tired, but Tetsu was L’Arc~en~Ciel’s leader and needed to take care of his responsibilities before he could get more rest.

“If the worst happens,” Ken’s voice was soft, “at least you have Hyde. He really loves you.” He smiled. “And you have me too.”

Tetsu reached for Hyde’s hand and laced their fingers together. “Yes, and we’ve experienced so many things together.” He squeezed Hyde’s hand. “Let’s try to be positive though. If Sakura quits, we’ll have to continue without him until we can find someone new. Tokyo has plenty of drummers. Once the media storm dies down, we could find a new drummer and rebuild the band.” He didn’t want to consider another option – that L’Arc~en~Ciel failed and he, Ken, and Hyde were out of a job.

Ken nodded. “Of course.” He frowned as Tetsu muffled a yawn behind his hand. “You should get some sleep too. You’re always so busy working.”

Tetsu leaned back against the seat. “We all need more sleep, but I need to work.”

Ken raised an eyebrow. “I doubt you can do much work when you’re on pillow duty.”

Tetsu chuckled. “No, not at all.”

“Go to sleep. Your paperwork will be here when you wake up.”

The bassist made a face. “That’s not every encouraging.” He yawned again. Ken was right. He couldn’t do paperwork and he couldn’t be on the phone with his manager. He should try to get some rest while he had the chance. Tetsu closed his eyes and gradually let the rocking of the train combined with Hyde’s gentle breathing lure him into sleep.

I really really enjoyed this! I know I don't read your fics much, but this caught my eye because I've always liked HydexTetsu! :D But I liked how it was kinda sad, cute and funny all at the same time. :D

I loved this! It's so so nice to read a cute Tetsu/Hyde fic (or even just any laruku fic) right now. I really like these kinds of fics - when it's just a tiny slice of their lives, explored more deeply.

I like this... steady and calm atmosphere, even if it's flavored with sadness. And the relationship between all the members looks so close. As I said - I simply loved this :)

Thank you, I wanted it to be cute when Hyde's awake and then sadder once he's fallen asleep so Tetsu and Ken can discuss things. They are cute, I want to write more of this pairing. I'm sorry - after urging you to post so much I only now got to actually reading this.

And such an amazing fic this is! I agree with most of what has been said already: this is one part sweet, one part cute and just a bit bittersweet too, what with the departure of Sakura looming overhead so obviously. But the atmosphere you created with this is amazing - so casual and normaland yet so precious at the same time. I'm so so happy to read this, and I thank you so much for posting it :)

I'm glad you like it so much! I really enjoyed writing this. I thought of a chaptered TetsuxHyde fic earlier nothing else to do but daydream on long, long car trips so I will be writing and posting that eventually.
