Summary: Hyde and Tetsu are forced to endure the heat in their apartment after the air conditioning breaks.
Author's Comment: This idea came to me through a desire to write HaiTsu again and me wanting to express my fury at how hot/humid this summer has been. I had this idea when I was walking my dog earlier and felt like I was going to melt on the sidewalk.  Thankfully my air conditioning works!

 

         Tetsu brushed his sweaty hair back from his face and turned his fan on higher, wishing the repairman had been able to come over today. The air conditioning had broken yesterday, the worst time it could break since temperatures were soaring and the humidity was terrible. He and Hyde were forced to suffer through the heat wave with nothing but fans to keep them cool.

…Which wasn’t going too well. Tetsu had resigned himself to the heat and had managed to complete some work for L’Arc~en~Ciel. Hyde, meanwhile, had done little more than complain. He was sprawled out on the kitchen floor, dressed in shorts and with a fan positioned at either side of his body. Tetsu glanced up from his papers and looked over at his lover, eyes travelling down his bare chest and admiring the defined muscles. That was the one good thing about this heat: Hyde had spent the entire day half naked.

“It’s too hot,” the singer whined for the umpteenth time, shifting to a different patch of tiles that would be cool against his skin.

“I know,” Tetsu agreed. He wished Hyde would stop complaining. Griping about their apartment’s heat wouldn’t change anything, and it was starting to get annoying.

Hyde tilted his head back. “Can’t you do something about it?”

“Do you think my answer has changed from the last four times you asked that question?”

“…No.”

“There’s nothing I can do, Hyde. Why don’t you go take a cold bath?”

Hyde wrinkled his nose. “I don’t want to freeze.” He sat up and stood in front of one of the fans, glancing back over his shoulder. “Why don’t we just go out? We could go shopping and eat lunch. All the stores and restaurants have air conditioning.”

The idea was tempting, but Tetsu had work he needed to do. “I have to finish some paperwork first, but if you want to go out then feel free.”

“I don’t want to go out without you.”

Part of Tetsu was glad that Hyde wanted to spend the day with him, but the rest wished he would just go so he could have some peace. He loved Hyde with all his heart, but if he heard one more complaint he was going to snap. “We’ll go out later then.”

“But it’s so hot now,” Hyde complained.

Tetsu threw his eraser at his lover. The singer squeaked as it hit him in the back of the head and turned around with a scowl. “What was that for?”

“I know it’s hot in here. I’m just as miserable as you are, but if you’re not going to accept any of my suggestions then there’s no point in whining about the heat. The repairman will be here tomorrow so we only have to put up with this for one more day.”

Hyde sighed. “You’re right.” He picked up the eraser and returned it to Tetsu. “I’m sorry I’ve whined your ears off all day. I’ll try not to complain anymore.”

Tetsu smiled. “I’ll throw my eraser at you again if you do complain.” He pulled Hyde down for a kiss and slipped his arm around his waist.

“Mean,” Hyde pouted, but kissed him back.

Tetsu suddenly had an idea and wondered why he hadn’t thought of it before. “Stay here.” He got up and left his confused lover, taking a washcloth out of the bathroom and returning to the kitchen. He pulled the ice cube tray out of the freezer and placed three into the cloth, covering the ice cubes and presenting it to Hyde. “That should keep you somewhat cool for now.”

The singer held it against his face, sighing in contentment. “That does feel good. How much more work do you have left?”

Tetsu looked at the papers again. Despite his determination to finish his paperwork for the day, Hyde’s suggestion to leave the apartment was all too tempting. The work would be waiting here when he returned.

“I’ll take a break and finish it later.”

“Are we going out?”

Tetsu gave the waistband of Hyde’s shorts a teasing tug. “Not until you get dressed.”

The singer laughed. “I might get mauled by fangirls if I went out like this.”

Tetsu nodded. “Go get dressed.” He adjusted his glasses. “I think we’re both going to melt if we stay here any longer.”

“I’m surprised we haven’t already.” Hyde went into the bedroom and came back wearing a tank top, sun glasses perched on his head. “Ready?”

“Ready.” Tetsu made sure he had his wallet, keys, and phone with him before putting on his shoes. Getting into his air conditioned car would feel like stepping into heaven.

I've heard a lot of European homes don't have AC. I'd die without it here, haha. My dorm at college has no AC and ugh that's hell.

Maybe that's why Tetsu didn't complain, he got to look at Hyde half naked all day XD

Though half naked Hyde is always a plus, I probably would forget all about the heat if I saw him like that >3

I really enjoy these little glimpses into their "lives"; you know, it feels like this scene could've happened :)

Haha one can only complain for so long though. Ugh at college, my dorm doesn't have AC so my roommate and I were just dying. We perfected the oh so sexy look of wet paper towel headbands to cool down. Then gave up and went to the bookstore to have the AC XD

Oh totally. I almost had Tetsu make a move, but decided to keep it mostly innocent instead.

I like writing things like this. It's nice to imagine it could happen
