Summary: Heating and money issues make it difficult for Asagi and Ruiza to live a comfortable life in their new apartment.
Author's Comment: I had the chills all yesterday and I'm having a hard time getting warm today too... so why not abuse my muses and make them cold too. They at least have each other to snuggle with. This is set sometime before D was formed.
Ruiza shivered as he huddled closer to Asagi. “This is ridiculous.” Their apartment was freezing. The heat wasn’t working and the repairman hadn’t been able to come out today, their space heater wasn’t providing nearly enough warmth… it was so cold in the apartment that they could see their breath whenever they spoke. They’d decided to just go to bed early, huddled up in each other’s arms and buried under every blanket they owned.
“I know.” Asagi pulled one of the blankets tighter around them. They’d decided to get an apartment together to save on the costs of living in Tokyo (and they were a couple so there was no point in living apart). It had been a good apartment, in theory, until the heat went out.
Now it was miserable. They were too cold to practice and could only get warm by taking a bath or burrowing under blankets and holding each other. At least it was warmer in Tokyo than it was in Akita. Although both were cold…
Ruiza laid his head on Asagi’s pillow. “I’m calling maintenance again tomorrow to see if the repairman will be able to come out and fix the heat.” They were trying not to use their heat too much to save money, but it was too difficult to get out of bed or do any work if it was this cold. They definitely needed to buy another space heater too. The little one they had wasn’t putting out anywhere near enough heat to keep them warm.
Asagi started rubbing Ruiza’s arms. “Good idea… and we need another heater.”
“Or two,” the blonde muttered. He looked grumpy as he hugged Asagi tighter. Poor Ruiza wasn’t handling the winter very well, even though he was used to them. It was probably harder for him since he’d just gotten over a cold last week.
Asagi laughed softly. “Maybe.” They had a day off this weekend and were using that time to go to an onsen. There, they could finally get warm instead of wearing several layers of clothes and still being cold.
“I need to start wearing a coat to bed,” Ruiza grumbled, giving their space heater a dark look.
Asagi turned his grouchy lover’s face up to kiss him. They could complain and bemoan about the cold all they wanted but it wasn’t going to do anything. And definitely wouldn’t make them warmer. So when Ruiza fussed over the cold too much, Asagi had his own way of… shutting him up. The blonde kissed him back, making Asagi jump as Ruiza brushed his cold hands through his hair.
“You feel like an ice cube.”
“Oh do I?” Ruiza smirked as he put his hands up Asagi’s shirt, making him squirm at the icy fingers on his back. “Your chest is so warm…”
“Stop it,” Asagi laughed. He pushed Ruiza onto his back and rolled on top of him, holding his wrists above his head. “You and your icy hands.”
“They’ll get colder now.”
Asagi kissed his neck. “That’s your fault for being mean.”
Ruiza sighed softly as his neck was kissed. “I promise I won’t put my cold hands on you if you let me go.”
“I’ll do the same thing to you if you do it again.”
Ruiza kissed him. “I promise.”
Asagi, deciding to trust his lover, let go of his wrists. Ruiza immediately wrapped his arms around the vocalist, holding him tightly. Both of them were feeling a little warmer now since they’d been moving. And their body heat was more concentrated now. That was another way of staying warm of course, and more enjoyable than hiding under blankets, but both of them were tired and didn’t have the energy. Also they’d freeze as soon as they undressed.
“We should try to sleep.” Asagi kissed Ruiza gently. They needed to be awake early tomorrow so they could get to the studio in time.
Last time they’d overslept…
Ruiza sighed softly. “Maybe we’ll have warm dreams.”
Asagi rolled off of him, pulling his lover into his arms again and holding him close. “That would be nice.” He nuzzled Ruiza’s hair. They’d be fine once they got their heater fixed but until then, they had no choice but to deal with the cold.
Notes
1) If you live in Japan in the winter it's more than likely that you will see your breath in your room. My friend living in Kyoto has that issue. It gets COLD here in the winter.
2) Next D fic will be... Asagi and Tsunehito! Ruiza keeps stealing Asagi.

Asagi and Ruiza have known each other for a while and although this is set in the early days of their relationship I do like to picture them as being very close despite being a somewhat newer couple. And I think the couple that can tease and playfully bicker with each other is a healthy one.
