Soon after posting Chapter 1 of the Art of Denial I had ideas for ways I could turn it into an original novel. This series was born out of me wanting to write more with Atsushi... a friend and I had been writing a story where he and his assistants are taking a vacation at a hotel which, unfortunately for Atsushi, turns out to be haunted. Writing stalled and I wanted to write more in that universe so badly that I came up with my own ideas.

Anyway, Art of Denial and the hotel sequel are going to be original novels. As I was working on the fanfic version of Art of Denial I wondered if I was wasting my time doing this since I planned to write it with original characters someday. I decided I should work on the fanfic version anyway, that it'd be good to work on since I've noticed that I get ideas for original novels and then... don't write them. But I'd actually work on these two novels. I've been getting ideas for both of them and as I was typing up the outline I kept wondering if it would be better to stop writing the fanfiction version at all.

Which brings me to the point of this entry:

1) Are you still reading the Art of Denial

2) Would you read this story if I changed it to an original version? Parts will be the same and parts will be different

3) Please tell me why you would or wouldn't read

4) Should I complete the fanfiction version of Art of Denial?

Those are all the questions I have... it's something I'll have to think about.

For me, the story is pretty much original as it stands, except for the names of the characters. So you might as well just switch it to original and work fresh (not having to try to allude to the 'fanfiction' elements).

Good luck! I know how it is to get original ideas and....not write them. (It sucks...)

I had the exact same dilemma with one of my fics. In the end I decided to stop writing fanfics completely. For me the decision was mainly because of time. I couldn't do both sadly :(

In answer to your questions:

1. I am still reading it though I've been sick today so haven't read the latest chapter yet.

2/3. Yeah I would totally read it if it was an original fiction. I love the idea and its totally the sort of novel I would read.

4. It depends how much time you have/or want to dedicate to it. If you have time to finish it and want to then go for it but if you feel your time would be better spent on the original one then you'll probably be better off doing that instead.

Hope this helps :)

Yeah getting them published is my goal now so I'm better off just focusing on original work now.

Thanks :) I feel much better today luckily :D

Of course! I love reading your original works!

I think you've made the right decision although I will miss reading the fanfic version too. Will you post the original here?

I'm not reading the Art of Denial because I haven't been reading ANYTHING lately O_o

but I think it's never a waste of time to write, even if you're writing the fanfic of a story you want to turn into an original story. while writing the fanfic, you keep practicing and you can edit later..

I think it's not a waste of time, but it's up to you, of course. ^_^

I wouldn't mind reading both fanfic and original. well, it's all up to you in the end. ^_^ But I have nothing against fanfics that turn into original novels later on.. because I think that's how I'm going to end up doing it too xD

you go girl! ^_^ I'm gonna cross my fingers.

Well, liking the fandom or not liking it isn't really much of an issue for me. xD I like the fandoms though, so all is fine. haha. But it's like ... even if I don't know the fandom much, or even if I don't like it much ... I can still read good fiction, you know. You write things that don't need too much background. They're stories on their own and that's why they'll make a good base for original works.

at least that's what I think xD
